Tasks overview

Tasks is where you plan, track, and ship work. Inside a workspace, work is organized into teams and projects, and every piece of work — from a single to-do to a multi-week effort — is a task.

A task can carry as much or as little detail as it needs:

  • Title and description — the description supports rich text formatting.
  • Status — each team defines its own set of statuses, grouped into stages like Backlog, Todo, In Progress, In Review, Done, and Canceled. Status names can vary from team to team.
  • Priority — No priority, Urgent, High, Medium, or Low.
  • Assignee — the person responsible for the task, or unassigned.
  • Labels — one or more tags, applied from your workspace’s or team’s label set.
  • Milestone — if the task belongs to a project with milestones, you can attach it to one.
  • Dates — a due date, and optionally a start date. Some projects use time-scoped tasks instead, which give a task a start and end time rather than just a date — see Projects and milestones.
  • Estimate — a size for the task, on a numeric or t-shirt-size scale.
  • Stint — the time-boxed iteration a task is scheduled into, if your team uses stints.
  • Sub-tasks — smaller tasks nested under a parent task.
  • Relations — links to other tasks: Blocks/Blocked by, Related to, and Duplicate of/Duplicated by.
  • Comments — a discussion thread on the task, alongside an activity log of changes.

When you create a task, you fill in the basics — title, description, status, priority, assignee, labels, milestone, due date, and estimate. Sub-tasks, relations, and stint assignment are added afterward from the task itself.

The Tasks sidebar has three main sections:

  • Inbox, My Tasks, and Triage — your personal views, always at the top. See Views for what each one does.
  • Workspace — links to your workspace’s Projects list and Teams.
  • Your teams — one entry per team you belong to, expandable to that team’s tasks, stints, and projects.
